1. Apple | #ShotOniPhone

Apple found a way to activate its community and showcase its products in one brilliant marketing campaign called #ShotOniPhone.

The #ShotOniPhone Apple marketing campaign leverages several different marketing tactics, such as online and offline advertisements, and has produced staggering results.

The hashtag has been used more than 16 million times on Instagram alone. This is an incredible brand exposure that Apple didn’t even had to pay for directly.

2. Airbnb

Airbnb’s Website 30th April, 2020

When most countries have stopped travel and transportation, and the hotel and hospitality industry bore the brunt of it, Airbnb found a way to innovate and change to not only stay active on social media but help with the current situation. 

By offering free or subsidized lodging to COVID 19 responders, it found a way to keep its business running. It supported a cause to win consumer trust and boost their brand image. It also launched a new Online Experience feature, through which its users at home can enjoy a travel activities from across the world, as they would if they were travelling to that place. 

3. YouTube | Shorter Side of YouTube

While brands like TikTok are raking it in with its short-form video content, YouTube sought a way to show its users that it’s still king when it comes to digital video. The brand launched its “Shorter Side of YouTube” to compete with TikTok and attract its core demographic. 

The campaign recruited the likes of DojaCat and The Weeknd, showcasing their short-and-sweet content and inspiring a whole new movement of social video.

4. Houseparty | Fortnite Trivia Challenge

Houseparty is one of the many platforms that gained popularity during the Coronavirus crisis. It is a platform where people can play games and connect with their friends over a video call. 

Last year, they launched a Fortnite trivia game in collaboration with Fortnite for their users. They used social media to post a challenge wherein Houseparty users need to get 20 million correct answers in the trivia to unlock a reward on Fortnite.

This challenge attracted Fortnite users to the Houseparty app to play the trivia game. And, it also promotes Fortnite as it gets access to Houseparty’s audience. Gamers get to play an engaging trivia game and earn rewards on Fortnite.

5. Spotify | Wrapped 2022

Spotify launched its 2021 ‘Wrapped’ campaign, and Instagram stories everywhere were flooded with shares upon shares.

Spotify offers a curated playlist of the user’s most played songs throughout the year. Additionally, it provides a click-through story with colorful slides that unpack your top artists, favorite podcasts, and top songs. For many, ‘Wrapped’ has become a yearly tradition whereby listeners can reflect on the year that has passed and do so through music and striking visuals. People love personalized content and gamification, and Spotify nailed it.

6. Dove | #PassTheCrown

Dove’s latest marketing campaign is called #PassTheCrown. Dove believes that everyone should embrace their natural hair without judgment. After the brand discovered that 70% of women don’t feel represented in media and advertising, Dove started a campaign to tell the stories of real women with real stories. They teamed up with the National Urban League, Colour of Change, and Western Centre to end race-based hair discrimination in the U.S.

8. Cadbury | Easter Egg Hunt

One of the most creative social media marketing strategies in 2022 goes to chocolatier Cadbury, which aimed to spread a little sweetness during a time of social distancing. The brand created a global Easter egg hunt, allowing users to ‘hide’ a virtual egg somewhere in the world while the U.K. was still under lockdown restrictions. Users could share a personalized clue with a friend or family member, plus they could purchase a real Cadbury egg to send to someone. 

9. Twitter

In an attempt to push its new Blue subscription to eligible users, Twitter launched a social-first activation outlining its key features.

Twitter Blue allows account holders to view articles ad-free, organize bookmarked tweets into folders, undo tweets, etc., for a small fee.

The hero ad mirrors an eighties workout video and features four comedic tweeters: Dana Donnelly, Meg Stalter, Boman, and Prance. Together, they flex their fingers in preparation for a Twitter experience that’s “faster, stronger, harder and smarter” while demonstrating the benefits of the subscription service.

10. National Geographic | #ThinkBeforeYouLike

#ThinkBeforeYouLike hashtag campaign aimed to educate users on the ongoing cheetah exploitation and smuggling ring. In the campaign, the brand warns users against clicking Like on photos of people with their ‘pet’ cheetah cubs, claiming that doing so only encourages the trafficking behaviors they’re working against.

National Geographic believes that users should think twice before engaging with anything, even innocent photos that appear safe on the surface.

11. Reddit | Maybe Together We’ll

The platform was looking to evolve its user base, focusing on marketing and partnerships and ultimately encouraging more brands to join the app as it expands on monetization.

The campaign, led by a 1-minute hero ad, which featured on social media, YouTube, and T.V., showed a diverse range of Reddit users searching for new conversations on the topics they love. Alongside the tagline ‘Maybe together we’ll,’ the overall feel of the ad is a positive one of discovery, community, and collaboration.
