How Does Yoga Change Body- Before & After?

yoga changes body before and after

It is said that yoga stretching exercises target all the nerves, muscles and glands of the body. Recent research on yoga has shown that it is beneficial for people with mental disorders such as type 2 diabetes, asthma, bipolar disorder, and yoga is also helpful. It even shows that the symptoms of patients with advanced cancer have improved.

But do you know what happens to the body before, during and after performing yoga for a few days, months or even years? This article will take you through all the changes that happen in a body once you start practicing yoga on a daily basis.

Post One Session

Better Brain Functioning

Just 20 Minutes Hatha Yoga is an ancient exercise that emphasizes posture rather than flow or sequence, which can improve cognitive function, concentration and working memory. In a study by the University of Illinois, participants performed significantly better on brain function tests after yoga compared with the results after 20 minutes of vigorous aerobic exercise.

Great Flexibility

A recent study by Colorado State University found that hot yoga is a form of yoga that requires a series of 26 postures for 90 minutes in a heated room, which is related to increased flexibility of the shoulders and hamstrings of the lower back. Compared with the control group, it increases deadlift strength and reduced body fat.

Reduced Stress

According to a study conducted by UCLA researchers last year, yoga’s ability to reduce stress may be due to its ability to reduce the activity of proteins known to play a role in inflammation.

Altered Gene Expression

A small Norwegian study found that many of the health benefits of yoga are related to its ability to alter gene expression in immune cells.

Improved Sexual Function

A Harvard study published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine in 2009 found that yoga can improve women’s sexual desire, orgasm, and overall sexual satisfaction. According to CNN, a research report published in the Journal of Sex and Marriage Therapy states that yoga can also improve women’s sex lives by helping women feel more comfortable with their bodies.

Better Lungs Functioning

A small study conducted by Ball State University in 2000 showed that 15 weeks of Hatha Yoga can significantly increase lung capacity, that is, the maximum amount of air that can be exhaled after deep breathing. Vital capacity is one of the components of lung capacity.

According to CNN, a research report published in the Journal of Sex and Marriage Therapy states that yoga can also improve women’s sex lives by helping women feel more comfortable with their bodies.

Saying Goodbye to Chronic Pain

A German study published in the Journal of Pain found that a 4-week Iyengar yoga practice (a type of hatha yoga that emphasizes correct alignment and use of accessories) can effectively alleviate adults with chronic neck pain and reduce the intensity of pain and suffering. Researchers at West Virginia University found that Iyengar Yoga is more effective than standard treatments in relieving pain and improving mood in patients with chronic back problems.

Stability in Sugar Levels

According to the 2011 Diabetes Care Study, adding yoga to a typical diabetes plan can stabilize blood sugar levels. Reuters reported that in addition to treating diabetes, only three months of yoga resulted in a decrease in body mass index without an increase in blood sugar.

Better Mental Health

A 2010 Boston University study found that 12 weeks of yoga helps reduce anxiety and increase gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) levels in the brain (low GABA levels are associated with depression and anxiety).

Reduced Blood Pressure

A study by researchers at the University of Pennsylvania found that yoga practice may be beneficial for patients with mild to moderate hypertension. Researchers found that people who practiced yoga lowered their blood pressure more than those who participated in a running/nutrition/weight counselling program.

Better Body Balance

According to a 2008 Temple University study, practicing the Iyengar Yoga program for the elderly can improve balance and help prevent falls in women over 65.

Healthy Body Weight

Researchers at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle found that among more than 15,000 healthy middle-aged people, there is an association or at least weight maintenance between regular yoga practice and weight loss. Those who were initially overweight who practiced yoga lost about 5 pounds at the same time as those who did not gain 14 pounds.

Stronger Bones

A pilot study of Dr. Lauren Fishman discovered in 2009 that yoga practice can increase bone density in the elderly. They did a bone mineral density (DEXA) scan, and then taught half of the people yoga, waited for two years, and did another scan. The results showed that these people not only did not lose their bones, but grew bones. Unsurprisingly, those who did not practice yoga lost a small piece of bone.

Less Heart Disease Risk

According to Harvard Health publications, yoga as part of a healthy lifestyle can reduce cardiovascular disease risk factors such as high blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar.

Conclusion

One of the main goals of meditation is to help people realize that they do not need to respond to negative emotions. Simply breathing or using a mantra can suppress the inner monologue, and you are not.

Try performing yoga and see the changes in your life before and after following the routine for a few months. Let us know how it helped change your body!
