Canva vs. Figma: Which Choice Is Right In 2022?

By JonasPosted on January 30, 2022September 16, 20226min read9288 views

It’s tough to find user-friendly photo editing software. Photoshop is one of the most widely used photo editing programs, yet it is not user-friendly. However, there are some software that is suitable for beginners. Two of them is Canva& Figma. Both are user friendly and easy to use without detailed in depth learning.

What is Canva?

Canva is an excellent online graphic design tool that is extremely simple to use. Not only that, but it also includes several templates to assist customers with their graphic design needs. The software is a rapid and straightforward approach for designing visuals that cannot be overstated. Aside from that, the software is a lifesaver for folks who aren’t familiar with photo editing.

Canvas’ registration procedure is similar to that of any other piece of software. All you have to do is join up and then follow the instructions. The software will assist you in selecting the appropriate graphic type for your project. Users can also choose from various template images suggested by the software. Because graphic designers’ time is frequently limited, Canva is perfect for large and small firms.

Canva offers both free and premium options when it comes to pricing. Once you’ve figured out how to use the tools, the program can rival any photo editing software. You may create anything from a brochure to a thumbnail to a logo. When you’re finished, download and send them. After downloading copies, you can share your completed design straight on any social network, Twitter or Facebook. All these advanced features in Canva make it a decisive factor in Canva Vs. Figma debate.

Features of Canva

  • Color Overlays
  • Templates
  • Free Images
  • The ability to clone previously approved documents to change them for programs.
  • Ease of use and a large number of design elements to choose from.
  • Downloading as a high-resolution PNG image
  • Even if your package changes, you can instantly upload to Facebook and save all prior versions.
  • With the least amount of effort, you can create a graphic quickly.
  • Ability to create visual material on the fly without wasting a lot of time.

What is Figma?

Figma isn’t just a photo editing program. It is, in fact, design software that focuses exclusively on UI/UX design. Figma is a product design software in the debate of Canva Vs. Figma enables and assists your team in quickly designing and prototyping applications. The software may also help you create quick mockups and high-fidelity prototypes ready for development. The software also has a multiplayer component that allows an entire team to collaborate on a single file simultaneously. If you want to work as a UX or UI designer, you should download Figma.

Features of Figma

  • Easy to use
  • Lightweight and quick
  • Collaboration is a game-changer, as is providing design details with public links.
  • Design system management and auto-layouts
  • Allow for the formation of teams to improve organization, management, and permissions.
  • Prototyping and delivery are simple.

Comparison between Canva Vs. Figma

First and foremost, let’s confront the colossal elephant in the room. Canva & Figma both deal with two distinct types of design. Figma is mainly used to generate digital interfaces like websites and apps, wireframes, and user flows. Canva, on the other hand, is geared toward traditional marketing graphic design, allowing users to produce print and digital assets such as social media graphics, posters, videos, and thumbnails with ease. In a nutshell, Figma is for user interface and user experience design, whereas Canva is for everyday print and web marketing design.

Canva can’t be used for UX design or wireframing, and Figma can’t for creative graphic design. It’s only that both are primarily created and built for those specific goals. As a result, employing one tool for one type of deliverable may make a project more complicated than it has to be. However, if you’re a beginner, Canva’s UI is significantly more straightforward and intuitive than Figma’s — a point we’ll get into later.

Figma files can be exported as commonly used picture formats and annotated in Canva to offer an extra explanatory punch if you’re advertising a new app launch or preparing a presentation about how a new website will work. Figma and Canva are both beautiful programs with a lot of free content. So, whether you’re looking for a graphic design tool or a wireframing platform (or whatever in between), you’ll find it here.

Canva Vs. Figma: Which is better suited for you?

#1. If you’re new to design in any way, Canva is the clear winner in terms of simplicity. It’s intuitive — if you have a basic understanding of tools like Microsoft Paint, you’ll probably find Canva simple to use right away. Figma, on the other hand, is a little more complicated. If you’re brand new to design software, you may need to undertake some preliminary research before you can produce anything captivating. The complexity of Figma isn’t all terrible; it allows for far more detail-oriented design with no pixel out of place.

#2. Canva has a lot of assets and templates that you may use to your heart’s content: stock pictures, vector graphics, fonts, layouts, and animations are all included in the free edition. The elements and templates you can access in the free version, on the other hand, are limited — partly to make life easier for users but also to make their paying solutions more appealing. Figma provides you with a more blank slate for stock assets. You’ll have to find a vector design here and a stock photo there if you wish to use them.

#3. Figma is primarily designed for real-time design collaboration, aside from its design characteristics. Figma acknowledges in their introductory video that transferring a design around for affiliation and approval can be a pain. When different persons use different applications, have various installations, and access foreign assets, getting quick input might be significantly hindered.

#4. Figma creates a level playing field by allowing real-time communication through a single browser-based collaborative platform. Its remarks are also linked to Slack to keep everyone in the loop. Canva now allows real-time collaboration, although it’s a recent feature – previously, cooperation had to be done one person at a time.

#5. Plugins and add-ons are the lifeblood of Figma: Plugins are the foundation of Figma’s community. Chart producers, font selectors, design resources from Unsplash, and accessibility plugins are just a few plugins available to Figma users.

Canva, on the other hand, is catching up, although it’s still far more limited at the time of writing.

#6. It is possible to draw freehand: Do you want to create your shapes and illustrations? Do you want to have pixel-perfect control over your design? With Figma’s freehand pen and curve tools, you can draw your forms using a mouse or graphics tablet. Canva, on the other hand, does not offer this convenience.

If you need a specific shape or wiggle in Canva, you’d have to use a pre-made curve or line and tweak it to achieve your desired result, which isn’t always the easiest.

Canva: Pros & Cons

S.No.ProsCons
1.The software is simple to operate. This product is not for professional designers.
2.Beautifully designed templates. There are only a few free templates available.
3.Subscription is free.
4.A gallery of animated GIFs is available.

Figma: Pros & Cons

S.No.ProsCons
1.It aids in the creation of quick mockups and presentations.Auto layout is challenging to grasp.
2.Cloud data storage using browser-based applications. The presentation mode could be better.
3.It’s excellent for graphs and typography.

Conclusion

Both Canva & Figma has its own set of features and its own set of advantages and disadvantages. However, because the former is photo editing software and the latter is design software, the two cannot be compared in all aspects. However, you need to analyze the requirement and see which tool fits perfectly with the expectations.
