Use of Robotics in Daily Lives

The word “robot” mind reminds you of images of famous Hollywood humanoid characters, but in reality, robots are mostly undramatic mechanical devices programmed to perform specific repetitive functions and tasks which people might find boring, dirty or dangerous to do on a daily basis.

They are also programmed to carry out activities which might seem complex for humans. Robots impact a huge part of our daily lives from service robots at grocery stores and malls to industrial robots for automobile industry.

While most of the humans view robotics as an artificial organism which properties such as mimicking, softness, compliance, knowledge, interaction with emotions and extending the capabilities of natural organisms. Let’s look at more such usage of Robotics.

Applications of Robotics in Daily Life

Household

As robots are defined to minimize the efforts of humans, their technology allows them to provide fully automated function with the convenience to use them. In a regular household, robotics such as cooking bots, lawn-mower or a vacuum cleaner which ease the efforts of humans and acts as helpful assistant complete the assigned tasks quickly and effortlessly. Not only this, they are also useful for petting animals, helping in laundry, picking up toys, clothes, newspapers, assembling furniture, moving heavy objects as well as capable of picking up calls and having a formal conversation.

The technology that robotics use Artificial Intelligence, allowing them to practice machine learning for improved operation.

Industrial Work

As robots can replace humans to perform dangerous jobs, they replace the workforce required at an industrial workplace. While managing the speed and quality of work manually became harder, with the advancement of robotics technology, now the number of tasks requiring physical participation can be replaced using robotics.

They provide advantages such as increased speed and production, reduction of human error, avoiding accidents and assembling heavy parts in order to develop high-tech machinery. They are also designed to perform a task in repetition such as nut-bolt fastening, brand-label wrapping etc.

Perfuming dangerous tasks include installing and checking pipes containing toxic gases, disarming bombs, clearing harmful nuclear waste, working as a firefighter or even cleaning the sewage systems.

Medicine

use of robotics in medicine

Robots act as great assistance tool for doctors. Robotic equipment in hospitals can provide 3D view, 10-fold enlargement of surgical area, and even instruments superior to the mobility of human hands. With great precision and accuracy, robotics helps in reducing human errors caused in traditional surgeries.

Another area in medicine where robotics has proved itself is by replacing a damaged human body part with a robotic body part such as using a robotic arm as a substitute is another advancement of robotics technology.

With the introduction of micro and nanorobots, medicine technology has been able to perform the drug delivery system effectively concentrating therapeutic payload around pathological sites in order to reduce the dose of administrative drugs and the side effects caused by them.

Education

Classified as General-Purpose Technology, robotics now has the potential to alter societies by its impact on economic and social structures. As in this covid-19 era, many students are sitting at home and learning online, engineers have made robots that can help the students attend these classes from far away. The classroom is controlled by the robots and uses its camera eyes and body to interact with other students and teachers.

It might be difficult to communicate with students with mental disabilities such as autism. This is where humanoid robots act as humans and interact with such students by teaching them social cues and educational lessons.

While science has made distant-learning possible, technology helps in continuing the process. Telepresence has impacted the education industry in a great way to make the online lessons interesting and interactive with the use for robots for students.

Defense and Security

In the security sector, the robots perform a very normal function as it helps in surveying the desired area and notifies the owner immediately in case of any disturbance. Such kind of robotics can be used in military as well as human daily life.

In the military, robotics performs several jobs including arming and disarming of bombs and monitoring the enemy’s activity and area sending information to the soldiers to be prepared in advance.

It also helps in surveillance to keep a check on people living nearby your house. It helps in monitoring the skies, ground and water from a remote location. You cannot control such robots from another location. Therefore, it helps in protecting your house and property from any potential harm.

Robotic Friend

You might think of robots as a machinery but with advancement in technology, robots act as friends as well. With the use of artificial intelligence, robots can act as humans, monitor you, and understand your likes and dislikes and thus, act as friends.

For example, Boomer, which was a bomb disposal robot, was given a military funeral with 21-gun salutes as it had a personality of its own and saved its human friend’s life at several occasions. Therefore, the comrades felt they owed him a military send off.

They also act as explorers and perform dangerous jobs in the outer-space. Recently, NASA sent a robot named “Curiosity” to explore Mars as it was not possible for a human. In several other countries, people are opting for robots as their life partners as they have emotions configured in them with the help of artificial intelligence.

Automated Transportation

With the development of Autonomous self-Driving cars, new automobiles with robotics are efficient and danger free. Self-driving robots are not robots that drive cars, rather it means that the vehicle is designed as robots with artificial intelligence. In countries in Europe and USA, they are made available in the forms of buses, trams, trains which are automated, but not cars in general.

Recently, Audi, Mercedes and Google have introduced their self-driving cars which make the transportation of goods and raw materials very easy and convenient. Also, with the help of complete awareness, they are less likely prone to accidents and road dangers.

Conclusion

With all the above uses of Robotics in our daily lives, it has made our everyday tasks easy and convenient to perform saving human energy and efforts while reducing the human errors and ignorance at times.
